The Gade Valley Harriers had a big presence at the annual Berkhamsted Half Marathon on Sunday 5th March, where a record breaking 58 GVH runners joined 810 others to brave the wind and rain to tackle the 13.1 miles of infamous hills. As well as the runners, GVH also fielded 3 Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaurs, complete with club shirts, for a bit of fun and to raise the profile of the fund raising run. Bagging second overall place was Mark Crabtree, and claiming 4th overall place in 1:16:16, and first vet home was Rich Coles in 4th overall place, posting a time of 1:18:41. In training for his London Marathon challenge, where he will run in full chain-mail armour, Tom Langdown completed his Berkhamsted Half Marathon wearing a 20Kg weighted vest, still setting a good time.
At the same event, but opting for the 5 mile fun run Maria Kenny Took the honours of first GVH home in a speedy 35:45, followed by Simon Geary 38:06, Ross Geary 38:07, Tracey Cotton 38:53, Philippa Hood 42:54, Natalie Cloy 43:12, Emma Nash 43:33, William Terry 47:16, Helen Terry 47:16, and Emma Tipton 52:33 all of them pitting themselves against 589 runners.
Gina Oliver from GVH chose a 10K race distance at the Milton Keynes 10K on Sunday, where she completed in 1:05:54.
The parkruns this week saw John Lawler post a time of 20:25 at the Black Park parkrun, team mate Vince Ellerby pushing hard to clock 20:40.
There were 5 GVH athletes at the St. Albans parkrun, Richard Phillips takin first GVH home in 20:47. Phillips was followed by Gareth Tucker in 21:10, David Wilson 22:37, Nick Crowther 30:10 and Lesley Jugoo 35:31.
Anthony James took 2nd overall place at the local Gadebridge Park parkrun in a swift 19:21, Phil Robbins chasing him home in 21:41 and Neil Harper clocking 40:20.
Cassiobury Park had father and son team Paul and Connor Reilly both crossing the line in 27:28, and Tom North was the lone Harrier at the Tring parkrun, posting a creditable 22:58.
